Who can submit?
Artists, designers or architects interested in working in the social sphere and also those seeking alternatives to traditional art contexts. We are also soliciting participation from educators, public policymakers, and community leaders either to submit proposals themselves or to work with us as partners as we begin our efforts to place artists in government contexts.
What kind of proposals are you looking for?
We’re interested in proposals that address social problems either directly or symbolically.
What is the deadline?
Proposals are being accepted on an ongoing basis.
What will happen to these proposals?
Submitted proposals will be distributed widely, both through the project at Momenta Art and on the IWT website. After May 1 the IWT will publish a book of submitted proposals. We hope that the proposals and eventually the book, will increase understanding of the art making process and how it might contribute to society as well as encourage policy makers and the general public to think of artists as potential partners in a variety of circumstances.
What about funding?
The book of proposals we publish will be used to generate interest and funding for a pilot version of the project—placing artists in residence with the agency or department of their choice.
As self-declared Artists in Residence for the US Government, the Institute for Wishful Thinking (IWT) believes that the community of artists and designers possesses untapped creative and conceptual resources that could be applied to solving social problems.
